Facebook as a Organization. (not trusted by power tech users for privacy concerns) Mark Zukerberg as CEO of Facebook. (young and in-charge of world's data, not trusted for his everything should be public kind of expressions) Facebook as world's most popular social network. (reached 800M user base recently ) Facebook as always changing Social Network for it's users & for its developers too. (Can't say whether it's for good or whatever) Stability/Openness of Facebook platforms. (Unstable platform for developers) Motives of Facebook (Facebook will always love to listen to you. Will always encourage you to share.. that's what they care about. Your privacy, your social interaction - that is just data for their business. They sell it.)
Here are few posts currently popular about Facebook as the organization, Facebook as the social network and It's ever changing platform.
Econimist writes - Sharing it all http://www.economist.com/blogs/babbage/2011/09/facebook (AT FACEBOOK, they like to call it “Zuckerberg’s Law”. This is the notion, promoted by Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, that the amount of stuff that people share roughly doubles every year. The social network is certainly doing its utmost to ensure that folk end up revealing more about themselves, whether they like it or not. On September 22nd Facebook, which now has over 800m users, unveiled a couple of significant changes designed to get people to share far more about their life histories and their interests in music, film and other areas.)
From the post: (If you are entrusting your life data to Facebook, or if you are depending on Facebook and its platform for your livelihood, beware. In the real Facebook world, there is no trust, and there is no friendship -- there is only money and power. Think really hard -- really, think -- before trusting Facebook or its employees with anything. Don't be a Facebook fool.)
Facebook Is Scaring Me. http://scripting.com/stories/2011/09/24/facebookIsScaringMe.html ( Facebook's new API allows applications to post status items to your Facebook timeline without a users intervention. It is an extension of Facebook Instant and they call it frictionless sharing. The privacy concern here is that because you no longer have to explicitly opt-in to share an item, you may accidentally share a page or an event that you did not intend others to see.)
-> We are watching Facebook and its evolution closely. As its general user & as it's platform users / developers. What all this fuzz have to say is - when you rely on any app. for sharing "every possible content" you had ever had in your mind with your friends (now autosharing without your knowledge) give some time to know how the system is using your presence. How the system/app is using your activities. Take care to know where your data will end up. Know it well and use it for good.
(Yes, we are sharing with our friends, and there is one friend who is listening to us 24/7, which is called Facebook, if our friends don't care about our updates, photos, activities - our forever friend Facebook will - that's how they earn so much of yearly revenue despite of their free service - they sell our data without any respect, with all possible digital manipulations. Almost all big internet companies like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft do the same thing - they collect your data and sell them. . But, they showed some respect to user concerns however Facebook is doing it without listening to user's reaction - it's pushing people for "change" - whether they like it or not. And never respecting people's privacy concerns.
